Hot or Not : Jeffree Star Cosmetics

Hot Or Not is where I review brands with 100% honesty after using their products and decide whether its worth the hype or not. Today I'm reviewing Jeffree Star Cosmetics.

Jeffree Star is an 'indie brand' based in the US. It is cruelty free and completely vegan which in itself is a massive selling point. There are still many brands around today that still test on animals, such as brands under the Estee Lauder umbrella.

I personally started using Jeffree Star cosmetics back at the end of last year when I bought some products after Christmas. I bought a palette and two liquid lipsticks. Later on this year I bought three more liquid lips. So far this is my collection of products I have bought from Jeffree Star. Hopefully I will be able to purchase some more soon including the Androgyny Palette!

All of the products that I will review and rate are products that I have used and brought with my own money. They are honest reviews and are all mine. If you have any reviews for these products, feel free to leave them below.

THE 'BEAUTY KILLER' EYESHADOW PALETTE

This eyeshadow palette is the first one produced by Jeffree Star. This product retails for £40. It was named after an album he released back when he was in the music industry. It is complete with 10 shades and 3 different finishes. Matte, frost & glitter. As each shadow is different, I shall review each shade!

Starpower: This is the hot pink matte shade in this palette. It is extremely pigmented and buttery to the touch. It blends like a dream and applies amazingly with both a brush and finger. It is easily build-able and the big pan size means theres loads to go round! The only con with this shadow is that, because of the high pigment concentration, the shadow does stain the skin once worn in. I'm yet to try combinations to prevent the staining but a full, primed face with foundation and powder on the lids too, does help minimalise this.

Princess: This is the baby pink frost in this palette. As with Starpower, it is extremely pigmented and buttery to the touch. This is such an intense colour that works well as a highlighter, lid shade and frosty transition colour. It is build-able and with the help of some Fix+ by MAC you can really intensify this colour. I'm yet to find any negatives about this shade!

Violence: This is the dark frosty purple in this palette. Like Princess it is extremely pigmented and buttery to the touch. It applies really well to the lid and blends like a dream. Its a mixture between light and purple frosts that create the perfect shade. This one slightly stains the skin too however not near as much as Starpower.

Rich Bitch: This is a bright gold shade which is a glitter formula. I have found with this shade that its pigmented when swatched with the finger however isn't as pigmented when with a brush. It requires a lot of layers to get the same pigmentation pay off. Again, I would recommend using Fix+ to get the most out of this shade. Out of all shades in this palette, I've found that this was the most disappointing colour.

Courtney: This is the matte nude, orange toned shade in the palette. This is by far my favourite shade. It is the most versatile and works with every look I create. It is the perfect transition shade for any look and any skin tone. The pigment pay off is amazing and works really well with a fluffy blending brush. Out of all shades, this is my favourite.

Expensive: This is the rich blue shade in the palette. Its a frost shade and looks like it has small gold reflects with hints of green. Its a deep turquoise teal and its beautiful as a lid and crease shade. Works well with deep smokey eyes and a bold inner highlighter. Its buttery and pigmented in both swatches and use.

Confession: This is the deep red shade. Its a frost finish and my second favourite in the palette. Its such a brilliant shade for deep warm looks. Its amazingly pigmented and perfect for any look. It works very well alongside Courtney and Rich Bitch. Again this shade works well with both finger and brush application. A little goes a long way!

Vanity: This is the dark purple, brown shade in the palette. Its a matte finish and incredibly pigmented too. Ive found that this shade can be patchy if not applied on a primed and set lid. It's very much like Rich Bitch where you will need a couple layers to build it up to the pigmentation in a finger swatch. However, with this shade, because it is so dark, it makes the shade easier to work with and harder to go too dark too quickly. It works perfectly alongside Courtney and Violence as a transition or a deepening outer corner shade.

China White: This is the final matte shade in the palette, its an off cream white. Much like china pottery, hence the name. This is the perfect setting shade for setting the lid, transitioning and carving a cut crease out. It makes for a perfect inner highlight and brow bone highlight too. This is a perfect shade thats so versatile with the rest of the palette.

Black Rainbow: This is honestly one of the most amazing shades that Jeffree has come up with. Its a matte, yet glitter formula. Its a shocking black shade with RAINBOW GLITTER. I was yet to find a black as shocking and pigmented as Blackout by Urban Decay however this shade takes the top spot. The pigmentation is insane! Its such a pigmented black that I'm still struggling to try and dip my brush enough to not turn my entire lid pitch black! Its amazing on swatches and just as good on the lid with brush application.

Final Notes:
----------------------

This palette is such an amazing combination of colours that work with all skin tones, all complexions and various eye looks. They are all mostly insanely pigmented and beautiful to work with. As let down as I was with Rich Bitch, the rest of the shades makes up for it. As far as it goes price wise, if we were to divide the shades by total cost, you're looking at £4 per shadow. This is cheaper than MAC and Makeup Geek (I think). For such high quality shadows, this product is amazing and definitely worth the money!

THE VELOUR LIQUID LIPSTICKS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The velour liquid lipsticks are the first thing that Jeffree produced in his makeup line. With worldwide recognition and appreciation, the liquid lipsticks are what Jeffree is known for. They are liquid lipsticks that dry to a matte finish. With all the hype, I bought two, fell in love and bought more! In total I have 5 shades which i've reviewed individually. The RRP for these is £16 however the 3 Christmas collection shades were on offer and I purchased

them for £11.60 each.

Dominatrix: This is a dark matte brown shade. Its very deep, dark brown shade. This applies perfectly to the lips. After a month to two, the formula does thicken up a bit and its harder to apply but one dip with the applicator can cover the entire lips.

Pumpkin Spice: This is a bright-ish orange shade with a hint of neutral brown that was part of the Christmas collection. It has orange/gold glitter within the liquid lip so when it dries, the glitter shines. Its an incredibly pretty shade. It does have some oil in it so you do need to shake it up a bit before you use it.

Sagittarius: This is a light neutral purple shade that is almost pastel. This was also part of the Christmas Collection from the Jeffree Star line. Again, because of the oil content, it does need to be shaken before application. Again, this shade can be applied fully in one brush stroke however sometimes for the extra pigmentation if not shaken, may need two.

Dirty Money: This is muted pastel green shade that resembles the same colour as a dollar bill. Like Dominatrix it is applicable in one brush stroke but can become thicker after a couple months. It is extremely pigmented and probably my favourite shade! It works with all skin tones and really brings out bright eyes.

Crocodile Tears: This is a dark, vivid green. This again, is part of the Christmas collection. This again does need a shake as I believe the rum flavouring affects the formula form the Christmas Collection. After shaking, it can cover all the lips in one stroke.

Final Notes:

The velour liquid lipsticks are one of the best liquid lips I have tried and am yet to find a better alternative. For the price, they last a long time and are pigmented. Again these are cruelty free and vegan. They come in loads of colours and finishes including frost and glitter. My next purchases will be Breakfast at Tiffanies, Flamethrower, Prom Night and Jawbreaker. I would definitely recommend these colours! They are long lasting and outwear many others I know from Makeup Revolution etc.

OVERALL JUDGEMENT
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall I would rate this a HOT! Its a relatively affordable brand, with high quality products. Not only are they high quality but their business morals are strong. Not only are they cruelty free and vegan but the company is independently owned by Jeffree himself. This means that he is solely independent, has full control and isn't contracted by a company. I would definitely recommend these products! Especially if you're undecided on whether to take the risk! DO IT! They're an amazing product and I can't wait to try out more!

If you've tried any other products I haven't mentioned, or products you'd recommend, do leave them below and let me know what you think!
